Robert Beck

Why Foreign Policy Matters
View Lecture

Robert (Bob) Beck has spent his adult life immersed in the complexities of international relations. From 1982, when he first lived overseas in Germany in the U.S. military, until 2020 when he and his wife Meg retired to Peterborough, his career spanned more than  than 30 years abroad in the U.S. foreign policy establishment.

He was in Prague in the early 1990s for Eastern Europe’s historic transition from communism to capitalism, in Syria and Iraq from 2006 to 2010 during the global war on terror and in Thailand 10 years ago amidst the strategic contest with China for influence in Southeast Asia.

Beck will focus on how America’s continued productive engagement with the world is critical to the United States’ economic health, cultural vigor, and national security and why what  happens “over there” will continue to matter even in small-town New Hampshire.
